“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart and ye shall find rest unto your souls for my yoke is easy and my burden is light” Matthew 11 vs 28-30. In accordance with the great commission by our Lord Jesus Christ, the mission of The Divine Healer’s Church (TDHC) is to bring all to the knowledge of Christ by: “going into all the world to preach the gospel to every creature so that he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be condemned” Mark 16 vs 15-16. In our gathering, we teach brethren to worship, love, honor and glorify God using scripture as our authoritative guide in order to magnify God’s name.
Also, we seek to be a body of disciples for Jesus Christ that seek to bring others to know, believe in and follow Him. “For we are not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth” Romans 1 vs 16. We fellowship with each other during church services in order to “hold fast the profession of our faith (for He who promised is faithful); and to consider how we may encourage one another toward love and good works. TDHC invites its congregation and visitors to partake in the Lord's Supper every first Sunday of the month. We also hold our annual water baptism every summer. This gives congregation members the opportunity to become fully pledged TDHC members. Let us not give up meeting one another as some are in the habit of doing but let us encourage one another more for the day is drawing near” Hebrews 10 vs 23 - 25.
The principles of The Divine Healer's Church (TDHC) originate from scripture and are therefore in accordance with the word of God:
*Everyone is worthy of salvation
*The gospel must be preached to the ends of the earth. Christian mission requires us, as disciples, to share the love of Christ with the world around us
*Jesus Christ expects full devotion from all His disciples
*The Bible is the word of God, relevant to every time and place
*We must strive for excellence in all that we do; always the head and never the tail
The Divine Healer's Church was originally formed by the late Brother Gilbert A. Lawson in Accra Ghana in February 1954. On June 27th, 2000, a group of members in the Tri-State area of the United States, met at a private residence in Roselle, New Jersey to discuss the formation of a chapter of The Divine Healer's Church here in America. After having made some decisions, the group decided to fast for one week, at the end of which the chapter was launched. The U.S. chapter of The Divine Healer's Church was therefore officially formed on Sunday, August 27th, 2000. Church Service was held every 3rd Sunday of the month for a while. It was then increased to twice a month. As the membership grew, the congregation decided that a bigger place was needed to accommodate the congregation. By the grace of God, a place of worship was secured at 516 Prospect Street in Maplewood on January 1st 2001.
Since then, we have been able to break new grounds and rise to higher heights. The church now has a place of worship at 245 Fabyan Place, Newark, New Jersey. TDHC has been growing steadily with about 3-4 new members joining every month. By the end of the year 2005, the membership has exceeded 150. Besides, new groups have been formed within the church which includes the elders numbering eight, the Youth Movement has 30 members, the Women’s Fellowship with about 20 members, Builing & Uplifting Individual Leaders of Divine Today (B.U.I.L.D.T) Ministry with 10 members, the Welfare Committee with six members and the Children's Ministry with 10 members. Praise God for all the efforts of members in the formation of these groups. It is our prayer that the Lord will continue to bless the church and make it grow from grace to grace.
